Ok I can help. There is a web site
http://thecutestblogontheblock.com/ there is a "free background" label on the left hand side, click that. Then there are 100's of backgrounds to choose from. What everone you choose there are directions from there. Mostly you copy the html code under the background, go to your blog, click on customize up at the top then go to the pick new template choose minima (your firts choice on the page) once that is done click on add a gadet on your page element area. Click on HTML/JAVASCRIPT paste the code there click save and there you go its on your blog! Once that is done you can go back and click on customize and choose the fonts and colors option under layout and change the colors of the text and titles and things like that.

As far as a slide show goes, click on the add a gadget and scroll down to slide show, thqat allows you to add photos and add it to the blog.
I also like pyzam.com for backgrounds. They have hundreds of backgrounds that are free and cute. With a playlist, I went through playlist.com and set up an online acct that is also free and all you have to do is enter in the title of a song or the artist and it will find it for you. I have never attempted slideshows, so I am of no use to you there. If you want help the next time you are here, let me know.
I agree with terha. I always use their backgrounds. Also, I like rockyou.com for slide shows and adding cool stuff to individual pictures. to add music go to playlist.com
